Because OCU UB works with some distant high schools, and therefore cannot serve its students in person throughout the academic year on a consistent basis, each of our target high schools we work with will have a Mentor Tutor. This individual will serve as a liaison between the target schools (during the Academic Year) and the OCU UB program. The Mentor Tutor is the person best able to identify eligible, talented students who can benefit from our program. Mentor Tutors serve as the primary contact and resource for all program participants during the Academic Year, assist students with the application process, and ensure that students gather all required materials for the program. Additional Mentor Tutor responsibilities include:
- Recruiting new eligible students and helping them with the OCU UB application process
- Administering student Needs Assessments for OCU UB Program efficacy
- Promoting and increasing awareness of the OCU UB programs within the community
- Helping students with their homework assignment completion (completion of assigned modules)
- Conducting meetings as needed regarding high school academic progress, college/career counseling, and more
- Assisting OCU UB with the acquisition of applicable academic records (transcripts, report cards) of each participant
- Assisting students, when necessary, and where applicable, with travel arrangements to/from the OCU UB Saturday Academy
- Maintaining effective communication between the student, student's families and OCU UB program's staff
