Kyle's TRiO Journey
This is the tale of my journey...
The TRiO programs are ones that are near and dear to my heart. I was an income-based, first-generation student. I can very much relate to those growing up in similar circumstances. It is truly a blessing to be able to give back to students on a daily basis.
I would not be anywhere near where I am if not for the TRiO programs. While a Junior High and High School student, I participated in the Talent Search program. Participating in this program provided me with the tools I needed to graduate High School.
While a student at OCU, I would not have completed my college education without the Student Support Services team. I am so grateful for their efforts in assisting me through some very difficult circumstances.
Prior to these experiences, though, I encountered a great deal of adversity, all of which helped mold me into the person I am today. My Mother and Father divorced when I was 3-years old. I lived with my Mother from the time I was three (3) until I was eight (8). In that time, my Mother made some poor life choices, which led to me nearly being placed into foster care.
My Grandparents, George and Shirley Hill, took me in during a very difficult time in my life. I owe everything in this life to the Lord's Blessings. His ultimate blessing to me were my Grandparents, each of whom are now in Heaven.
Prior to becoming the Director of the Upward Bound Program at Oakland City University, I served for 4.5 years as a Retention Specialist with the Student Support Services program at Oakland City University.
It is an absolute privilege to work with your child. You have my personal commitment that our program will support your child's journey in any way we possibly can.
I am a prime example that #TRiOworks, and I am extremely proud and blessed to be the Director of the Upward Bound Program at Oakland City University.
